PINK STUFF

Riley has an important message for all the toys makes and marketers out there: stop trying to force pink stuff on girls. They like other colours too. And while you are at it, some girls like superheroes just as much, if not more, than princesses.

SEXISM BEGINS IN THE TOYS AISLE (2º ESO DECEMBER)

Go into any toy store—the girls’ side is lousy with pink brooms and kitchen accoutrements, dolls and other products of domesticity. The boys’ side, in contrast, is blue and red, action-oriented, building materials and science projects.
GoldieBlox is a toy company out to show the world that girls deserve more choices than dolls and princesses. They believe that femininity is strong and girls will build the future — literally.

They want to get more girls interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

As the toy's advert shows, little girls are about more than just pink. Believe or not, girls are creative too!



Debbie Sterling, who founded Goldieblox -- a toy designed to get girls into engineering -- has enlisted an army of tiny (but fierce) girls to star in her advert and put an end to gender stereotypes once and for all.

Tired of their hideously gendered toys -- think ballet pumps, teddy bears and fairy wands -- the girls storm a local shop.
Smeared with bike grease and wearing 'More Than Just A Princess' T-shirts, they clearly mean business.

KATHY SWITZER

In 1967, the American athlete Kathrine Switzer, became the first woman to run the Boston Marathon. At the time, athletics officials believed women were incapable of running more than a mile and a half. After crossing the finishing line, Switzer was disqualified. It was an experience that turned her into a campaigner for women's sport.

Facing a future where women are still paid 23% less than men for the same work, and where 1 in 5 women are raped or sexually assaulted in gender-based violence, little girls between 6 and 13 years-old dressed as pretty pink princesses drop F-bombs to draw attention to society’s continued sexism.
Asking the question, “What’s more offensive? A little girl saying f*ck or the sexist way society treats girls and women” these adorably articulate little ladies in sparkling tiaras turn the “princess in distress” stereotype on its head and contrast the F-word with words and statistics society should find shocking such as “pay inequality” and “rape.” The video also features a 12 year-old boy wearing a pink gown standing up against sexism saying, “When you tell boys not to ‘act like a girl,’ it’s because you think it’s bad to be a girl.”
